In honor of the Scripter going to The Descendants and The WGA.

Original Screenplay: Midnight in Paris, Written by Woody Allen; Sony Pictures Classics

Adapted Screenplay: The Descendants, Screenplay by Alexander Payne and Nat Faxon & Jim Rash; Based on the novel by Kaui Hart Hemmings; Fox Searchlight

Documentary Screenplay: Better This World, Written by Katie Galloway & Kelly Duane de la Vega; Loteria Films

Paul Selvin Award*: The Help, Written by Tate Taylor

It's time to look at the Screenplay races.

Best Adapted Screenplay
Who Will Win: The Descendants had been the favorite for a long time but suddenly over the last month the tide seemed to be turning toward Moneyball. However I realized that I may have jumped the gun predicting Moneyball. The Scripter and the WGA puts The Descendants as the favorite for best adapted screenplay.

Who Could Win: Moneyball still has the Critics Choice awards on it's side and the prestigious name of Aron Sorkin and Steve Zaillian behind it. The WGA doesn't always win as proven by the Precious win.

Winner: The Descendants

Best Original Screenplay
Who Will Win: The WGA means much less in this race considering that The Artist isn't even eligible but I still I think that Midnight in Paris has the edge. It's been a long time since Woodly Allen has had a best picture nomination and even won a Oscar. An Oscar could be considered a reward for and a prize to keep on telling him to make great films.

Who Could Win: The Artist will always be a threat in every category and almost especially in this category considering that it's extremely rare that a best picture loses this category.

Winner: Midnight in Paris
